The bertha armyworm risk is fairly low across most of the Prairies, but the insect pest is at high numbers in localized areas. These infestations can occur even when adult traps in the area had counts within the ‘low’ risk range, so scouting is recommended everywhere… -
Tall waterhemp is confirmed in eastern Manitoba. Palmer amaranth is in North Dakota and moving north toward Manitoba and Saskatchewan. Both are big aggressive weeds with populations resistant to many herbicides, including glyphosate. If you find them, destroy them immediately… -
Sclerotinia stem rot could be a big problem in areas that started dry then turned wet and stayed fairly moist during and after flowering. The dry start to the season meant a lot of fields didn’t get sprayed with fungicide, even though conditions prior to and following flowering have favoured the disease in those areas… -

Canola is not a heat-loving crop, and heat during flowering (28°C or more coupled with warm nights) can cause flower abortion (missing pods) or small dead pods. Heat can also cause a hormone response that can result in misshapen pods… -
