Still have seed to buy, or want to make sure you made a good seed decision? Canola Performance Trial (CPT) results have been tabulated and will be posted soon at www.canolaperformancetrials.ca. Data from these audited third party trials are a great way to critically assess variety choices.
The online tool includes interactive maps, an economic calculator, and the ability to refine searches by specific trial location, season zone, herbicide tolerance (HT) type, yield, days to maturity, lodging and height. Users can compare results from 2013, 2012 and 2011.
CPT results are organized by short, medium and long season zones. See the table below for the basic parameters to outline each zone. The maps below show average growing degree days (base 5C), which you can use as a guide to determine your zone.
CPTs include both small plot and large field scale trials. Results for 2013 are based on 20 small plot trials and 108 field scale trials across the Prairies.
A printed version of the 2013 CPT results booklet will be mailed to canola growers in mid-November in a package with the new Canola Digest Science Special edition. You can also download a PDF of the booklet at the CPT website.
