Flea beetles and slow-growing crop. Seed treatment is likely no longer providing protection if canola has been in the ground since mid May. If canola is growing slowly for whatever reason, a foliar spray may be required if flea beetles are still present and feeding on new growth, and if leaf area loss is above the action threshold (25 per cent leaf area loss). Cutworms here and there. We have no reports of wide-spread cutworm outbreaks, but look for isolated patches that may benefit from a localized spray. The nominal threshold is of 25 to 30 per cent stand reduction. Canola Encyclopedia section on scouting and thresholds.
