ICW: Gather with the world's brightest clubroot brains

The International Clubroot Workshop, a gathering of clubroot researchers, is August 7-9 in Edmonton. Extension specialists, municipal staff, canola growers and anyone else interested in clubroot management are welcome to attend.

The scientific program has an international and Canadian focus on:

• Genetics and breeding
• Genomics
• Host-pathogen interactions
• Epidemiology and disease management

For the agronomy program, delegates will have the opportunity to see first-hand “research in progress” while touring the Crop Diversification Centre North research facility. This includes:

• Greenhouse tour – pathotyping and CCD testing with extra pots for plant pulling
• Research lab facility tour
• One-of-a-kind pathotype nursery tour – clubroot resistance cultivars and clubroot research trials that are underway from graduate students
• Henwood tour – liming study and canola research trial plots of graduate students

A second tour of a clubroot-infested west Edmonton field site will feature clubroot management strategies:

• Liming
• Susceptible host garden
• Canola plot trials with a range of resistance
• Patch management demo

Researchers, agronomists and industry stakeholders will be on hand to answer any questions you may have.
