Canola Council of Canada update on activities and budget

November 24, 2017 – CCC membership continues to represent all links in the canola value chain including canola growers, life science companies, processors and exporters. The canola industry has come together through the CCC for 50 years, delivering value through agronomy and research, building the canola brand through market development, and setting the industry standard for resolving market access issues for stable and open trade. CCC members remain committed to the Keep it Coming 2025 strategic plan – sustainably increasing yields and profitability of canola, working for stable and open trade, and differentiating our products for the benefit of the full value chain.

Pressures facing the agriculture sector such as margin pressure for handlers and processors, new organizations and funding obligations following the open market for wheat, changing cropping patterns in Western Canada, and mergers and acquisitions among the membership are affecting the companies and organizations that are members of the CCC. As the CCC exists to serve the industry, it must continually review its priorities and evolve alongside these changes. Throughout 2017, the CCC Board of Directors has had extensive discussions to ensure the scope of activity that CCC undertakes to serve the industry fully aligns with changing industry needs and priorities. As a result, the annual budget has been reduced to reflect members’ needs in the current environment. The CCC will work with core funders and other partners to continue to support the canola sector.

In 2018, the Canola Council will continue its discussions on industry priorities and the CCC’s role in the sustainable growth of the sector. This process will involve outreach to the members of the CCC and other industry stakeholders. It will be guided by a continued focus on building efficiencies through partnership and collaboration to make the best use of member contributions, while remaining agile and delivering results for the Canadian canola value chain.

The Canola Council of Canada is a full value chain organization representing canola growers, processors, life science companies and exporters. Keep it Coming 2025 is the strategic plan to ensure the canola industry’s continued growth, demand, stability and success – achieving 52 bushels per acre to meet global market demand of 26 million metric tonnes by the year 2025. This year, the Canola Council celebrates its 50th anniversary. Visit CanolaHistory.ca to learn more.
