The Canola Meal Dairy Research Team is a network of research scientists who receive support from the Canola Council of Canada and Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada through the Growing Forward 2 program to conduct research that continues to drive demand for canola. On the canola meal side of canola production, research teams across North America are continuously studying the best applications for canola meal in the diets of dairy cows, and working to eliminate any barriers dairy producers and nutritionists might have to feeding this protein source.
Members of the Canola Meal Dairy Research Team are:
Each year, the Canola Meal Dairy Research Team meets to discuss recent findings, provide each other updates on their current research, and collaborate to help shape future research and determine what the U.S. dairy industry needs in order to further adopt canola meal. Currently, a big theme of the research team is rumen undegraded protein (RUP), with multiple researchers looking at this topic from a couple of different angles, such as the digestibility of canola meal RUP’s and its potential role in milk production.
“The Canola Meal Dairy Research Team exists as part of the Canola Council’s commitment to research and supporting the Canadian canola industry,” says Brittany Dyck, canola meal manager at the Canola Council of Canada. “The research that this team publishes goes a long way in ensuring that we are moving forward in fully understanding canola meal and the role that it plays in enhancing milk production in lactating dairy cows.”
