For me, a memorable leader is the original founding president of the Canola Council, 1967 to ’70 – Mac Runciman, a farmer from Abernethy, Saskatchewan, who was also the president of United Grain Growers from ’61 to ’81. Trying to put the different sectors at the table initially and share a bigger common vision, and maintaining that vision and stability as an industry to advance the whole thing forward took a lot of vision, a lot of power, a lot of tenacity, and it took somebody special like Mac who could do that.
