An economic threshold is the level of infestation (ex. pest insect density) at which lost yield (ex. due to feeding/insect pest damage) is expected to exceed the cost of the chemical and its application. Determining the economic threshold will help growers decide if a spray operation is necessary (warranted) to avoid economic losses.
